wonderful cover of a wonderful song.
by the way, stevie has had his ups and downs, but he was the tops in his prime (mostly the 70's)
the album isn't on iTunes, but the song is

a couple of brothers from north carolina. they play banjo, upright bass, and acoustic guitar but hesitate to categorize themselves as bluegrass, or anything for that matter. fans say "indie roots", "folk-punk", or "grungegrass; whatever they are, they're good. they're currently working on a new album with legendary producer rick rubin (the guy who revitalized johnny cash & was the original DJ for the beastie boys). you can listen to these while we wait for the release of the new album (9/29)...

frontman ben bridwell (the one with the grass growing out of his shirt) can sing. i should mention that these guys are one of my favorite bands. listen...
the great salt lake, everything all the time
i'll borrow a paragraph from pitchfork to describe this next song.
As crunchy guitars give way to light strings on "Ode to LRC", Bridwell sings about a stray dog and a "town so small how could anybody not look you in the eye or wave as I drive by." He's one of few indie artists who can sell a line like "the world is such a wonderful place" or get away with singing "la-dee-da" with open-hearted amazement.
ode to LRC, cease to begin

a self-described "instrumental staten-island afro-soul" outfit. most of these guys are school teachers by day. words won't do any good, just listen.
this is my favorite track from their 2nd album.

let's get started with one of the most interesting artists around these days, mr. andrew bird. bird is a classically-trained multi instrumentalist (my favorite is when he plucks the violin), gifted whistler, accomplished lyricist and all around swell guy. i could go on and on, and i probably will in future posts, but just give a listen for the time being.
here's a good one, "lull" from weather systems...
"oh no" is from his latest album, noble beast. it's got a bit of a catchy hook and some top notch whistling...
